Specialist engineering, construction and asset management contractor, Bilfinger Berger Services, has been appointed as one of the contractors for the Northern Victoria Irrigation Renewal Project (NVIRP).
The company will install nearly 200 automated FlumeGates™ in the Central Goulburn Irrigation District to improve irrigation water deliveries.
This district is part of Victoria's 'food bowl' and is suffering from prolonged dry weather conditions. The new FlumeGates™ will control water flow and reduce outfalls.
"Bilfinger Berger Services is a major service provider to the water industry in Australia and New Zealand," said Bilfinger Berger Services Executive Director, Infrastructure Services, David Tucker.
"The company's capabilities in water include the operation and maintenance of public and privately owned water networks and assets."
The NVIRP works will include modifications and, where required, replacement of concrete structures and the installation of new automated FlumeGates™. The works will also include rock beaching either side of the FlumeGate™ structures to minimise erosion and replacement of existing walkways and handrails.
Bilfinger Berger Services is taking advantage of the current non-irrigation season to install the FlumeGates™and the project is due for completion in August. |
