A $6.3 million upgrade of the D’Aguilar Highway between Mary Smokes Road and Arnolds Road North is now complete.
Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said more than 6,400 motorists a day would benefit from the upgrade.
“The Bligh Government has spent close to $100 million on improvements to the highway between Caboolture and Kilcoy,” Mr Wallace said.
“This is a substantial investment and a strong reflection of our government’s commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient road network for Queenslanders,” he said.
“The D’Aguilar Highway is an important arterial road link connecting the Moreton Bay, Somerset and South Burnett regions.
Work on the D’Aguilar Highway between Mary Smokes Road and Arnolds Road North included upgrading of the road surface, realigning the Villeneuve Road intersection, and widening the road to provide two 3.5 metre lanes with two-metre shoulders on each side.
Mr Wallace said up to 17 per cent of traffic on the highway between Caboolture and Kilcoy was heavy vehicles, making it one of region’s most important corridors for freight transport.
“In addition to improving freight efficiency, the upgrade has delivered other important benefits for the region’s economy, with an average of 59 direct and indirect jobs sustained throughout the project,” he said.
