Construction of a new $11.4million primary school in Girrawheen is under way after Education Minister Liz Constable turned the first sod on the site today.
Dr Constable said the new facilities for Roseworth Primary School and Roseworth Education Support Centre were part of a long-term plan for the area.
“The new Roseworth Primary School will be a focal point for the community,” she said.
“The school will include a dental clinic and additional administration offices to allow other government agencies to provide services to students and families, while a partnership with Edith Cowan University will also allow for the construction of a research and training facility.
“This facility will allow student teachers to observe and research a range of teaching methods and behaviour management techniques in action in the classroom, as well as include space for them to work with small groups of students to improve their skills.”
Dr Constable also met with representatives from the Department of Education and Training, The Smith Family, Fogarty Foundation and Edith Cowan University about work to support Roseworth Primary School students and their families.
The new primary school will cater for 360 students from Kindergarten to Year 7, and include 10 classrooms; three early childhood classrooms; library resource centre; covered assembly area; canteen; art and craft facilities; music room; and administration block.
The Roseworth Education Support Centre will cater for 30 students and include four classrooms and a life-skills’ kitchen.
Construction is expected to be completed during the first half of 2010.
Roseworth Primary School opened at the start of 2008 at the site of the old Hainsworth Primary School, when that school and Montrose Primary School amalgamated.
Students and staff will remain at the old Hainsworth Primary School site while the new school is built on the old Montrose Primary School site in Stebbing Way. |
