Solid progress is being made to revitalise the area of the Glen Waverley Railway Station and Bus Interchange thanks to $280,000 from a Brumby Labor Government grant.
Visiting the area as part of the Brumby Labor Government’s Mitcham Community Cabinet Minister for Planning Justin Madden said the works to improve the road and pedestrian infrastructure between Railway and Coleman Parades were a significant step in revitalising the Principal Activity Centre.
“The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to rejuvenate Melbourne’s suburbs and maintain our liveability,” Mr Madden said
“These works undertaken through the Creating Better Places program will be of great benefit to the 7000 commuters who frequent the area daily.
“Through the Victorian Government’s Creating Better Places program, Monash City Council has improved the general amenity and access to public transport and paved the way for the next phase of commercial and residential development in the precinct.’’
Member for Mount Waverley Maxine Morand said the renewed Kingsway transport hub would become the central point for what has become a fantastic centre of activity, with great access to amenities and public transport, improved safety and a sense of pride for the Glen Waverley community.
“The Brumby Labor Government is committed to supporting the development of strong, vibrant communities, right across Victoria,’’ Ms Morand said.
“Government funding allowed the council to move ahead with this important urban development project which will provide a great outcome for Glen Waverley residents once completed.’’
In addition to the Creating Better Places grant, VicTrack committed $250,000 towards the project and Monash City Council committed $396,000.
Mr Madden was joined by Monash City Council Mayor, Councillor Charlotte Baines on a walking tour of the precinct to inspect the new road works as well as the pavements that are near completion.
The scope of works included design, civil works and drainage, urban enhancement, landscaping and signal works for two intersections.
“The $13.5 million Creating Better Places program is about assisting Victorian councils and their communities to create well designed public spaces that are accessible and welcoming,’’ Mr Madden said.
The Creating Better Places program builds on the Brumby Labor Government’s Melbourne 2030 and its planning update Melbourne @ 5 million funding urban improvement projects in metropolitan activity centres and regional cities and towns. |
