Approval has been given for a mixed-use commercial and retail development at Sydney Olympic Park which will support almost 650 jobs.
NSW Minister for Planning, Tony Kelly, said the $32 million project on Site 13 boasts two commercial office buildings of five and four stories.
They will accommodate:
- Basement parking for 100 cars, nine motorcycles and 46 bicycles; and
- Office space, retail, a café, courtyard and lobby areas, and a loading bay on the ground floor.
“This project is also consistent with the Sydney Olympic Park Masterplan 2030 recently approved by the NSW Government, which establishes a framework for future development in the area,” Mr Kelly said.
Minister for Western Sydney, David Borger, welcomed the jobs boost for the area.
“It’s great news the buildings will be able to accommodate around 600 fulltime workers and a further 45 jobs will be generated in the construction phase,” Mr Borger said.
Member for Auburn, Barbara Perry, said this project will serve to further develop the commercial focus of this iconic Sydney location.
“It will also strengthen its economic viability,” Ms Perry said.
Mr Kelly said the proponent, OD Partnership, made a number of amendments to the proposal after community consultation.
They include:
- Reducing the bulk and scale of the proposal – in particular the gross floor area and building footprint;
- Almost doubling the number of bicycle spaces and providing additional lockers and amenities for cyclists;
- Providing nine motorcycle spaces; and
- Introducing mezzanine levels for the two ground floor retail units.
“A total of 76 conditions have been imposed on the approval to ensure the development is carried out in an appropriate manner,” Mr Kelly said.
They include:
- Restricting parking on site to reduce private vehicle use;
- Providing a contribution of $529,387 for community facilities, and public transport and road networks; and
- Planting trees along the site’s western boundary to mitigate any impact from wind.
