Box Hill residents will have better police services thanks to a $16.5 million Brumby Labor Government investment in community safety as the new Box Hill police station nears completion.
Police and Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron and Burwood MP Bob Stensholt today inspected construction on the new station.
“The Brumby Labor Government continues to provide record resources to Victoria Police and this new $16.5 million Box Hill police station will further improve police services for the community,” Mr Cameron said.
“The new Box Hill police station is another way the Brumby Labor Government is delivering on our ongoing commitment to make Victoria a safer place to work and live.”
Mr Stensholt said the new 24-hour station will house uniform officers, a criminal investigation unit, a transport management unit and a sexual offences child abuse unit.
“The needs of the Box Hill community have outgrown the capability of the old station, and our Government has recognised the importance and need for the latest in policing in this area,” Mr Stensholt said.
The new environmentally sustainable facility will incorporate a rainwater harvesting system for toilet flushing and landscape irrigation. The building is expected to be completed in April.
Following the inspection at Box Hill, Mr Cameron visited Glen Waverley police station with Mount Waverley MP Maxine Morand before going to Nunawading police station with Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Brian Tee to meet with local police officers.
Mr Cameron said the Brumby Labor Government was committed to ensuring Victoria’s police are well resourced and to helping make Victorian streets safer.
“The Brumby Labor Government has invested $450 million to build and refurbish more than 160 police stations and residences as part of the biggest construction program of its kind,” he said.
“We have provided record numbers of police to keep communities safe and there are more on the way. We have also delivered tough new laws to the men and women of Victoria police and a record budget of $1.9 billion this year.” |
