Hon Paul Holloway Minister for Mineral Resources Development
Minister for Urban Development and Planning Minister for Small Business
Minister for Urban Development and Planning Paul Holloway has now approved the rezoning of land in and around Port Augusta to provide scope for further urban growth.
Mr Holloway says the decision means significant areas of land will be rezoned to allow residential development in Stirling North, Port Augusta West and adjacent the golf course.
"More land will be rezoned for commercial uses; the existing industry zone will be expanded; open space in the region will be preserved and protected and new policies will guide the ongoing management of future development," Mr Holloway says.
"These changes are consistent with the Port Augusta Structure Plan, which provides broad directions for the future growth of this important regional centre.
"The rezoning follows two months of extensive consultation by Port Augusta City Council with State Government agencies and the public.
"As part of this DPA process, Port Augusta City Council adopted suggested changes arising from the community consultation.
"Adoption of this DPA will ensure well-planned growth as Port Augusta expands."
Mr Holloway welcomed Port Augusta Council’s support to split the initial DPA into two parts, which allows the approved sections to be implemented as soon as possible.
"This provides an opportunity for Council to further investigate some the additional proposals in the second part of the DPA, without holding back some of the other beneficial changes" he says.
"The second part of the DPA includes the expansion of rural living land adjacent the Port Augusta Racecourse, among other matters to be determined by Council and agreed by the Minister.
"Work will continue on this section of the DPA including scope for further public consultation."
