Minister for Main Roads
The Honourable Craig Wallace

Works to increase safety at the Hickey Road intersection on the Caboolture-Beachmere Road have begun, Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said today.

Mr Wallace said the $2.3 million project would improve safety and travelling conditions for motorists in the area and would be carried out by RoakTek Asset Services.

“The project will involve reconfiguring the Caboolture–Beachmere Road intersection with Hickey Road by widening, repairing and strengthening the pavement at this location,” Mr Wallace said.

“More than 5000 motorists a day will benefit from this project which will improve safety and provide better road conditions at the intersection.

“The project will also boost employment with an average of 39 direct and indirect jobs sustained over the life of the project.”

Member for Pumicestone Carryn Sullivan said to accelerate construction, Jocelyn Street at Caboolture–Beachmere Road would be temporarily closed until Christmas and alternative routes would be available via Lawrence Street and Ann Maree Drive.

“Hickey Road at Caboolture–Beachmere Road will also be temporarily closed from early October until Christmas and motorists can access Hickey Road from Caboolture–Bribie Island Road”, Mrs Sullivan said.

“Variable message signs and other road closure signs will be installed at key locations to advise motorists of the temporary closures. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during these periods,” she said.

“I urge motorists to please slow down and drive to the changed traffic conditions during the work. Please remember, roadwork safety is your responsibility too.”

Work on the Hickey Road intersection is expected to be completed by mid 2010, weather permitting.
