ISOBOARD® has a range of properties very different from common expanded polystyrene.
- High resistance to heat flow (i.e. low thermal conductivity);
- High resistance to water vapour diffusion;
- Uniform density distribution for dimensional stability;
- High compressive strength;
- Ageing resistance (properties are retained over time);
- Resistance to bacteria and micro-organism growth;
- Environmentally friendly;
- Fire resistance (a fire retardant is added);
Buildings insulated with ISOBOARD® requires less heating or cooling intervention than a poorly insulated one, which means the cost of energy for heating and cooling is lower. ISOBOARD® contributes to energy saving for the expected life of the building.
Other Advantages
- Ease and cost effectiveness of insulation: The lightweight nature of the board, its strength, length and flexibility, as well as the tongue and groove edge profile make ISOBOARD® one of the easiest and cheapest insulators to install, particularly when combined with its ability to be used in exposed applications.
- Versatility of applications: ISOBOARD® can be used in a large range of application. It can be installed in almost any roof liner, ceiling, cavity-wall or inverted floor application, and it can be readily repaired if damaged during installation.
- Moisture transfer resistance: As ISOBOARD® is effectively waterproof, this allows its use in inverted roof application, in very high humidity applications in agriculture, aquaculture and manufacturing plants. It is suitable for use in residential applications where moisture and condensation are prevalent, such as kitchens, bathrooms and laundry.
- Durability: ISOBOARD® can reasonably be expected to last for the life of the building, with minimal fall off in thermal performance. Depending on the building type and purpose, this can mean significant energy cost savings over the life of the building.
- Safety: ISOBOARD® contains a flame retardant additive and has proven qualities in a fire situation, predominantly that it does not support flame spread. (tested in accordance with Aus/NZ 1530.3 - 1999)
